How storage pricing works

Rules and restrictions

What can be stored

Normal locked luggage — suitcases, backpacks, duffels and hard shells — within the size bands on your reservation. Declare anything oversized (golf bags, dive kit) when you reserve so space is confirmed.

What cannot be stored

No cash, passports or documents, jewellery or high-value electronics, perishables, and nothing flammable, hazardous or illegal. Bags may be screened, and storage can be refused for prohibited contents. Keep valuables and medication with you.

Match the hours to your flight. Confirm the drop-off and collection hours on your reservation cover your actual arrival and departure times — especially for late-night landings and pre-dawn flights — and keep the storage contact number with you.

When storage saves the day

The layover tour

The classic pairing: store the bags, clear immigration (eTA needed unless exempt — see Kenya eTA), and spend the hours in Nairobi National Park or the city instead of a terminal chair. See connecting flights for the timing maths.

The safari baggage limit

Safari light aircraft from Wilson typically allow about 15 kg per person in soft bags only — no hard shells. Store the big cases at JKIA, fly with the soft bag, and collect on your way home. See the Wilson transfer.

The long gap between flights

Checked out of the hotel at 10:00 with a 23:00 flight? Store the bags and use the day in Nairobi without dragging cases through restaurants and museums.

Early check-in isn’t possible

Landed at dawn with a room ready mid-afternoon? Store the bags near the airport and start your day rather than waiting in a lobby.

Luggage storage: frequently asked questions

Is there luggage storage at JKIA?

Yes — bags can be stored near the airport per bag, per day, with drop-off and collection arranged around your flights. Reserve with your dates and bag count and the meeting instructions, hours and rate are confirmed before you commit.

How much does luggage storage at JKIA cost?

Storage is charged per bag, per day, with the rate depending on bag size; a part day counts as a day. The exact rate in KES or USD is confirmed on your reservation before anything is charged — we don’t publish figures that go stale.

Can I store luggage during a layover and leave the airport?

Yes — that is the classic use: store the bags, clear immigration and use the hours on a tour or in the city. Leaving the airport needs a Kenya eTA unless you are exempt, and budget the full round trip before your next check-in.

Can I store a suitcase while I go on safari?

Yes, and it solves a real problem: safari light aircraft from Wilson typically allow about 15 kg per person in soft bags only, with no hard shells. Store the big cases at JKIA, fly with a soft bag, and collect them on your return.

What do I need to drop off and collect bags?

Photo ID at drop-off, where bags are tagged against your ID and you receive a receipt; then the same receipt and matching ID at collection. Bags may be screened, and the receipt is required for release, so keep it safe.

What items can’t be stored?

No cash, passports or documents, jewellery or high-value electronics, perishables, or anything flammable, hazardous or illegal. Keep valuables and medication with you. Storage can be refused for prohibited contents found in screening.

Can I drop off or collect late at night?

Confirm the operating hours on your reservation against your actual flight times, especially for late-night landings and pre-dawn departures. Tell us your flight number so the hours can be checked for your timings before you commit.

What happens if I’m delayed and collect late?

Extra days are charged at the daily rate confirmed on your reservation, and you should contact the storage number on your reservation to flag the delay. Bags remain tagged to your ID and are only released against your receipt.
