Private Transfer from JKIA to Wilson Airport
Wilson is a different airport — ~15–17 km away by road, home of the safari light aircraft — and there is no airside link from JKIA. You clear immigration, collect your bags, and drive. Our transfer monitors your inbound flight and knows which airline building to deliver you to. Allow 3 hours or more between the flights.
A separate airport
Immigration + bags + a road transfer — never treat it as a connection inside JKIA.
3 hours minimum
More if you land at rush hour or carry checked bags.
Monitored & delivered
Flight tracked, name sign at 1E, dropped at your airline’s own building at Wilson.
How this route is priced
One fixed per-vehicle fare, JKIA arrivals to your airline’s check-in building at Wilson, agreed on the quote before you land. Includes flight monitoring and a waiting allowance for immigration and baggage — the two things that make this connection unpredictable.
Price basis: per vehicle · one-way · flight monitoring included · confirmed on the quote in KES or USD
Why this connection catches people
The Wilson Airport trap, in plain terms
Your safari flight to the Mara, Amboseli or Samburu (Safarilink, AirKenya Express, Skyward and similar) departs from Wilson Airport (WIL) in Lang’ata — not from JKIA. There is no transit corridor: you must enter Kenya (eTA needed unless exempt — see the eTA guide), collect any checked bags, and travel by road.
The drive alone is 20 minutes to an hour-plus with traffic — the Stadium roundabout area is the classic bottleneck, and rush hour (roughly 7–9am and 5–7pm) is the danger zone. Wilson also has no single terminal: each airline operates its own check-in building along the access road, and safari check-in typically closes about an hour before departure.
A worked 3-hour connection
Here is what a JKIA–Wilson connection actually looks like with a 3-hour buffer, assuming an on-time morning landing. Every stage can run longer — which is why 3 hours is the floor, not the target.
- 09:00Land at JKIA. Taxi to stand and disembark; international arrivals feed into Terminal 1E.
- 09:15–10:00Immigration and baggage. Queue lengths vary by hour and season; checked bags add time. eTA holders present their approval here.
- 10:00–10:15Customs and exit; meet your driver. Name sign in the 1E arrivals area; straight to the vehicle.
- 10:15–11:15Drive to Wilson. 20 min on a clear road, an hour or more in traffic. The driver takes the sensible route for the hour.
- 11:15–11:30Find your airline’s building and check in. Each carrier has its own building; your driver drops you at the right one. Safari check-in commonly closes ~60 min before departure.
- 12:00+Safari flight departs. A 12:00+ Wilson departure is comfortable off a 09:00 JKIA landing. Tighter than this, talk to us first.
Missed-connection disclaimer, stated plainly: we monitor your flight and drive the best available route, but we cannot control immigration queues, baggage delivery, traffic or your airlines’ schedules. If your inbound flight is severely delayed, the onward flight may be missed — rebooking is between you and the safari airline, so book flexible fares where possible and consider an overnight buffer for tight itineraries (see day-use and transit hotels).
The 15 kg soft-bag rule
Your suitcase probably can’t come
Safari light aircraft (typically Cessna Caravans) have small holds. Most carriers allow about 15 kg per person in soft bags only — no hard-shell suitcases. Check your safari airline’s exact allowance before you fly.
Arriving off a long-haul with 23 kg hard shells? Plan for the excess before you reach Wilson’s check-in scale.
The clean solution
Store the hard cases at JKIA with luggage storage — per bag, per day, released against your receipt when you fly home — and carry a soft duffel for the bush. Tell us on the form and we’ll fold a storage stop into the transfer plan. Some safari operators and hotels also hold bags; confirm with yours.
Check your transfer price
Send both flights and we’ll sanity-check the connection as well as quote the vehicle — if the buffer looks dangerous, we’ll say so before you book anything.

Booked through the JKIA.co.ke Flightline Desk
We are a small independent desk that tracks JKIA day to day, and the JKIA–Wilson run is the connection we warn about most. We quote a fixed per-vehicle fare, monitor your inbound flight, and deliver you to your airline’s own building at Wilson.
We will also tell you honestly when a buffer is too tight to book — a missed safari flight costs far more than a franker conversation upfront.

JKIA to Wilson: frequently asked questions
How far is Wilson Airport from JKIA?
About 15 to 17 km by road, in Lang’ata on the other side of the city’s southern corridor. The drive is 20 minutes on a clear road and an hour or more in traffic — the Stadium roundabout area is the usual bottleneck, and there is no airside or rail link between the two airports.
How much time do I need between a JKIA landing and a Wilson departure?
Allow 3 hours minimum, and more if you land at rush hour or have checked bags. The buffer covers immigration, baggage, the drive, and Wilson check-in, which commonly closes about an hour before a safari flight. Tighter than 3 hours, ask us to sanity-check it first.
Do I need a Kenya eTA to transfer from JKIA to Wilson?
Yes, unless your nationality is exempt — the transfer means leaving JKIA through immigration and entering Kenya, exactly like any arriving visitor. Apply through the official portal before travel; airside-only transit rules don’t apply because you must exit the airport.
Where does the driver drop me at Wilson?
At your airline’s own check-in building. Wilson has no single terminal — Safarilink, AirKenya Express, Skyward and the others each operate separate buildings along the access road — so tell us your airline and the driver delivers you to the right door.
What is the baggage limit on safari flights from Wilson?
Typically about 15 kg per person in soft bags only, with no hard-shell suitcases — the light aircraft holds are small. Check your airline’s exact allowance, and store the hard cases at JKIA with luggage storage so you fly to the bush with a soft duffel.
What happens if my flight into JKIA is delayed?
We monitor the flight and the driver adjusts to the actual landing, so the transfer itself keeps working. But a severe delay can still miss the onward flight — rebooking is between you and the safari airline, so book flexible fares and generous buffers, or add an overnight for tight itineraries.
How much does the JKIA to Wilson transfer cost?
It is a fixed per-vehicle fare for the route, including flight monitoring and a waiting allowance, quoted in KES or USD before you book. Request a quote with both flights and the desk replies with the price and an honest read on your connection buffer.
Can I use Uber or a taxi for this connection instead?
You can, and off-peak it may cost less — but nobody is monitoring your flight, you arrange the pickup after landing with bags in hand, and the driver may not know which Wilson building your airline uses. For a time-critical safari connection, the pre-booked, monitored transfer is the safer tool.
