Because the price depends on your vehicle, gate or camp, travel dates and any add-ons, we quote each transfer individually and confirm it in writing before you pay. We don’t publish a fixed figure we can’t stand behind.

Step by step
How the JKIA to Masai Mara transfer works
You book and we confirm the price
Send your flight, dates, group size, camp and luggage. We reply with a fixed per-vehicle quote and, once you’re happy, a written confirmation.
We meet you at JKIA arrivals
Your driver waits in the arrivals hall with a name sign after you clear immigration and collect your bags. We monitor your flight, so an early or late landing is fine.
We route around Nairobi and out west
We use the Southern Bypass to avoid the city centre where possible, then the A104/B3 towards Narok — with an optional Great Rift Valley viewpoint stop.
Onto the Mara and your camp
From Narok we continue to your gate (Sekenani, Talek, Oloololo and others) and on to your camp. The last stretch is unpaved, so we plan the vehicle and timing around it.
The drive, honestly
Route, road condition and the right vehicle
The Masai Mara is roughly 225–275 km from Nairobi depending on your gate, and the drive is about 5.5–7 hours including a stop. Most of it is sealed tarmac out to and beyond Narok; the final ~50–60 km / around an hour into the reserve is unpaved murram.
In the dry season (roughly July–October and January–February) that last stretch is dusty but firm, and a saloon or minivan can manage the tarmac gates. In the wet season (around April–June and November) the murram turns to deep, rutted mud and can be impassable for a standard car — a high-clearance 4×4 is essential, and it’s the safer choice year-round for the western (Oloololo/Musiara) gates.

Should you drive or fly to the Masai Mara?
Both are valid, and we’ll book whichever genuinely suits you. Flying is faster and easier on short trips; the road transfer keeps all your luggage, costs less than flying for a group, and shows you the Rift Valley. Here’s the honest trade-off.

Timing, late arrivals and getting there in daylight
Arrive with daylight to spare
The unpaved final stretch and wildlife areas are best driven in daylight. For a comfortable arrival before dark, we usually recommend leaving JKIA by late morning. If your flight lands in the afternoon or evening, a Nairobi overnight and an early start the next day is the safer plan.
If your JKIA flight is delayed
We monitor your inbound flight and adjust the pickup at no penalty for airline delays. Because the Mara drive is long, a very late landing may mean starting the following morning — we’ll advise you honestly rather than push a risky night drive.
Reserve and camp access
Camps and gates have their own check-in and access timings, and some conservancy roads are restricted after dark. Share your camp name and we’ll align the transfer with its guidance.
The return to catch your flight
For your journey home we build in a generous buffer for the road and Nairobi traffic, plus the airline’s check-in cut-off. Give us your departure time and we’ll set a safe pickup from your camp — see departing from JKIA.

Should I drive or fly from Nairobi to the Masai Mara?

Drive if you want to keep all your luggage, are travelling as a group where one vehicle price beats several air fares, or want to see the Rift Valley. Note that light-aircraft flights leave from Wilson, not JKIA, so flying still needs a JKIA–Wilson transfer.

Yes — that’s one of the main advantages of driving. Unlike the light-aircraft fly-in option, which typically limits you to around 15 kg in soft bags, a private vehicle carries your full luggage. Tell us how many bags so we send the right-sized vehicle.
What happens if my flight into JKIA is delayed?

Can you add a game drive or an overnight stop to the transfer?
