JKIA Terminals and Airport Map

Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) has two terminal buildings: Terminal 1, one connected building with concourses 1A–1E, and a separate Terminal 2. Find your concourse below, then confirm it with your airline before you travel.

Terminal 1
One connected building

Concourses 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D and 1E — walkable end to end in about 10–20 minutes. Most JKIA traffic is here.

Terminal 2
A separate building

Used by some low-cost and regional carriers. It is not connected airside to Terminal 1 — allow 60–90 minutes between them.

Always confirm your concourse

Concourse assignments can move. Check your booking or boarding pass and the live departures board on the day.

Terminal 2

Terminal 2 — the separate building

Terminal 2 is not part of the Terminal 1 horseshoe. It is a distinct building used by some low-cost and regional carriers, and there is no secure airside link between the two.

What it is

A distinct low-cost / regional terminal

  • Separate building. It stands apart from Terminal 1 and has its own check-in, security and arrivals.
  • Low-cost & regional. Which carriers operate from T2 changes over time — always confirm with your airline rather than assuming.
  • No airside connection. You cannot walk airside between T1 and T2; any move between them is landside.
Getting between T1 and T2

Allow 60–90 minutes

  • Landside shuttle or taxi. You leave the secure area of one terminal and travel by road to the other.
  • Budget generously. Give yourself 60–90 minutes for a T1 ↔ T2 move, more at busy times.
  • Connecting on separate tickets? Treat a T1 ↔ T2 change as a self-transfer and read the connections guide first.

Arrivals vs departures

Where to go — leaving vs landing

The concourse you need depends on whether you are departing, arriving or meeting someone. Departures are split by concourse; international arrivals are consolidated in one hall.

Departing

Go to your concourse’s check-in

  • International: concourse 1A (Kenya Airways / SkyTeam) or 1B / 1C (most others).
  • Domestic: concourse 1D.
  • Terminal 2 carriers: check in at Terminal 2, a separate building.
  • Arrive early, confirm your concourse, then follow signs to check-in and security. See departing from JKIA.
Arriving

International arrivals use 1E

  • International: everyone processes through the 1E arrivals hall — immigration, baggage, customs.
  • Domestic: arrivals come into concourse 1D.
  • Meeting someone? Wait in the arrivals area outside 1E (international) or 1D (domestic). Track the flight on live arrivals.
  • Do you need an eTA? Check the Kenya eTA guide before you land.

Walking & transfers

Moving between concourses and terminals

Inside Terminal 1 you can walk between concourses. Moving to Terminal 2 — or to Wilson Airport — is a different matter and needs real time budgeted.

Inside Terminal 1

Connected and walkable

  • The concourses form one connected building — roughly 10–20 minutes end to end on foot.
  • Routes are signposted; an airside shuttle helps connecting passengers who need it.
  • Allow extra time with young children, heavy hand luggage or if you need special assistance.
Don’t confuse Wilson with JKIA

Wilson is a separate airport

  • Safari and domestic light-aircraft flights often leave from Wilson Airport (WIL), ~15–17 km away — not from JKIA.
  • There is no airside link. Budget 3 hours+ and read the connecting-flights guide.
  • Detailed terminal-to-terminal routes live on the terminal transfers guide.

Always confirm your terminal before you travel

Terminals and concourses at JKIA are assigned by the airport and airlines and can change at short notice, including for individual flights. Everything on this page is a planning guide, kept current and dated — but the sources that override it are your booking, your boarding pass, your airline and the live departures board on the day.

JKIA terminals FAQ

Common questions about JKIA terminals

How many terminals does JKIA have?

JKIA has two terminal buildings. Terminal 1 is one connected building split into concourses 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D and 1E, and it handles most traffic. Terminal 2 is a separate building used by some low-cost and regional carriers. A larger “Terminal 3” has been planned for years but is not built.

Which terminal do international flights use at JKIA?

International flights use Terminal 1. Departures are split by concourse — Kenya Airways and SkyTeam partners from 1A, and most other international carriers from 1B or 1C. All international arrivals are processed in the 1E arrivals hall.

Which terminal is for domestic flights at JKIA?

Domestic flights within Kenya use concourse 1D in Terminal 1 for both departures and arrivals, with carriers such as Jambojet, Skyward Express and Fly540. Some low-cost and regional services operate from the separate Terminal 2, so confirm with your airline.

How long does it take to walk between JKIA concourses?

Terminal 1’s concourses are connected, so you can walk between them in roughly 10–20 minutes end to end. Routes are signposted and an airside shuttle assists connecting passengers. Allow extra time with children, heavy hand luggage or if you need special assistance.

How do I get from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 at JKIA?

There is no secure airside link between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. You move between them on the landside by shuttle or taxi. Allow 60–90 minutes, and more at busy times. If you are connecting on separate tickets, treat it as a self-transfer.

Where is the international arrivals hall at JKIA?

International arrivals are handled in concourse 1E of Terminal 1. This is where you clear immigration and passport control, collect checked baggage and pass through customs before reaching the arrivals meeting area, forex, ATMs and SIM desks on the way out.

Which terminal does Kenya Airways use at JKIA?

Kenya Airways operates from Terminal 1, concourse 1A, together with SkyTeam partners such as KLM and Air France, and international arrivals are processed at 1E. Concourse assignments can move, so confirm on your booking or the live departures board before you travel.

Is Terminal 3 open at JKIA?

No. A larger “Greenfield” or Terminal 3 development has been discussed and planned for many years, but it has not been built. JKIA currently operates Terminal 1 (concourses 1A–1E) and the separate Terminal 2.

Is Wilson Airport part of JKIA?

No. Wilson Airport (WIL) is a separate airport about 15–17 km from JKIA, used mainly for safari and domestic light-aircraft flights. There is no airside connection — you clear immigration, collect your bags and travel by road. Allow at least three hours for a JKIA-to-Wilson connection.

How do I confirm my JKIA terminal before travelling?

Check your booking confirmation and boarding pass first, then confirm with your airline and the live departures board on the day. Terminal and concourse assignments are set by the airport and airlines and can change at short notice, so treat any guide — including this one — as a planning aid.
